Presentation
AICIA is a non profit research association recognized by the Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT) both at national level (Ministry of Science and Innovation) and regional (Science and Business Innovation Council).
AICIA work teams cover the main areas of Industrial, Chemical, Aeronautical and Telecommunications Engineering. AICIA arose in 1982 from the initiative of a group of teachers at what was then the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers of Seville (ETSII) aware, on one hand, of the need for teachers at this type of centre to experiment the reality of industrial firms in order to better transmit this to their students, and on the other hand, of the human potential and capacity for service to industry and society to be found at the school (ESII).
AICIA has a framework agreement with Seville University by which the human and material resources of the ETSI can be used to serve the ends established in its statutes. This AICIA – Seville University agreement meant, in fact, putting into practise the spirit of the Organic Law of Universities (LOU) various years in advance, providing the means for effectively developing what was later contemplated in article 83 of said law.
This original idea was supported by the Official Industrial Engineering Association and various business groups as a way for teachers and final year students at the ETSI to take part in theoretic and applied participation projects in collaboration with industry.
Association Objectives
The "F. de Paula Rojas" Association for Research and Industrial Cooperation of Andalusia (AICIA) is a non-profit making association working exclusively towards the interests of the public, with the aim of promoting, directing, and developing industrial research. Special emphasis is laid on the publication and diffusion of its results to favour technological advance in Andalusia and collaborate in improving the professional capacity of Andalusian engineers. The aims of AICIA, as laid down in the fourth item of its statutes, are:
1. To contribute to improving firms in general and Andalusian firms in particular, by technological innovation and development.
2. To carry out research projects, studies and tests of interest to industry in general and to AICIA associates in particular.
3. To establish cooperation relationships with public or private bodies, or individuals for providing services and carrying out research work.
4. To actively participate in protecting the industrial environment by the evaluation of pollution levels and advising about less polluting manufacturing processes and corrective measures for installations.
5. To give technical training courses and continuous education for post-graduates as well as conferences and workshops on technological themes.
6. To create and judge awards for research works and give grants to post-graduates and students for carrying out technical research work.
7. The activities of the Association are preferably developed in the Andalusian Autonomous Community; however there is increasing participation in national and international projects in accord with the integration of Spain in Supranational European institutions.
