Urban Logistics Management

Two lines of work are carried out. On one hand, modelling tools are developed for quantitative analysis of urban freight delivery and location evaluation. These tools, based on the optimization algorithm or on macroscopic or microscopic simulation, cover an aspect of urban mobility analysis that is frequently ignored in the face of private vehicles or public passenger transport.

On the other hand, starting from the application of these modelling tools to real situations, solutions and policies are designed that contribute towards improving specific aspects of freight delivery in cities. These solutions, based on the elaboration of normative, the proposal for business organization improvements, or the application of information systems, are always considered within the context of global planning of mobility in cities.

Logistics Management in Ports

Management tools are developed that allow port services to be improved, with special attention to the technological improvement of infrastructures and port services, that are vital so that the logistics and intermodal functions carried out by ports contribute more decisively to promoting the use of maritime transport as an alternative to land transport.

Development of management tools that give impulse to the necessary technology for promoting quality and security in the operations and services given by ports, and improve environmental control in the port areas.

Development of the Short Sea Shipping (SSS) concept, through the study and analysis of routes and transport flows, specifically designed ships, and port infrastructures integrating all the associated transport chain.

Development of specific tools for inland waterway logistics management, paying special attention to the case in concrete of the navigable stretch of the River Guadalquivir and specificness (signalling by buoys and floats, management and traffic planning in function of tides and lock traffic, etc ).

Development of intermodality management tools with the aim of optimizing modal transfer service quality and security both in that relative to both passenger and freight terminal operation and operations carried out in them, so that each mode contributes to maximum efficiency of the system.
